A DOG NAMED JACK
If you were a dog…Imagine living outside on hot summer days and cold winter nights - in the rain or a hurricane. Imagine being hungry and when the cheap dog food was not available you had to eat dirt, paper – maybe chew on wood. Imagine never being tested or treated for heartworms or receiving any vet checks, imagine wearing the same collar for years – a leather one but coming apart at the seams with a rusted and twisted buckle and mold. Imagine after all that – you are taken to a noisy, overcrowded high-kill shelter by your owner, who responded when they told her there was no room, “Well go ahead and euthanize him – he’s old.”
Meet Jack … because HE is this dog. And here’s the good news - Jack survived! But only because his wonderful smile was posted on FB and Peace Love and Paws, Inc. jumped in to save him. Finally, after 16 years – he is in a caring foster home with the chance to have a loving forever family - the kind of home he should have had all his life!
Yes, he has broken teeth – but not a broken spirit. He has a bounce in his step as he be-bops around the yard and he is “naturally” housebroken (because he went outside all his life!) Jack gets along with other dogs – but is rather indifferent – he’s just happy to be here. He pays more attention to the cat – they seem to like each other.
Jack has blended just fine with the routine of 3 other dogs and the cat. He rides well in a car and is great on a leash. Truthfully, he is more agile than two other dogs that are younger than him. He loves to be patted on the head, stay in the bathroom when his foster mom puts make-up on and he likes/tries to sleep on his back but keeps falling over unless he is near a wall!
Not everyone is looking for a puppy or even a middle aged dog. Cute little Jack (weights less than 40 lbs.) would be a great friend for someone who is lonely for a companion. If this sounds like you – this could be a perfect match!
