Gallowglass? What kind of a name is that? We too,
found this name a little strange but after research we feel it is appropriate. It comes from a 13th century Irish clan and means WARRIOR. He IS a little warrior to have survived such a horrific situation and he does answer to Gallow. Gallow
is a sweet four-year-old smooth coat black and tan mini Dachshund . Gallow was part of a hoarding case consisting of many dachshunds. We picked him up after his owner went to a nursing home and a friend took over the 20 dogs living in the home. They were getting fed 2-3 times a week and lived in a home full of trash and waste. They were all so scared and covered in fleas. Gallow was underweight-he only weighed 9 pounds-but he’s gaining weight. Gallow’s foster mom has only had him for a short time but she says he is slowly coming out of his shell. He is the kind of dog that will run to you and never want to leave your side. He is very intelligent. He is no longer afraid of dogs and people that come to the house. That tucked tail is now wagging! We do not know how he would react to cats and children but it took him only a short time not to feel afraid of his foster sibling pups. Gallo absolutely hates the crate! You can use the crate when you go out and he does eventually calm down. The crate was tried the first night. Then he was gated in the kitchen but he would not stop crying. So now he’s sleeps in a dog bed next to his foster mom or with her. He sleeps like a baby! Gallow will bark if his foster mom goes out or someone he has not met comes in. Its not a mean bark. It’s a “Who are you because I’m anxious bark .” Gallows foster mom has been working with him on a leash with a halter. He is a quick learner. He can now walk together with the whole pack. He is still afraid of other dogs walking in the neighborhood but he is also curious to smell all the smells in the outside world. He
will require several fairly long walks each day. He’s
working on potty training but often waits to use the pee pads when he gets home. And don’t ever think about taking him out in the rain! Gallow’s favorite past time is just sitting on his foster mom‘s lap quietly while she watches TV. He still does not understand how to play with dog toys and he is great in the car.
