Dugg came to PLP as an owner surrender. He was living a rather isolated life in a room by himself. When he first came to us, he was scared.  He has since come out of his shell and transitioned well to a foster home with multiple other small dogs.  

Dugg is a 6-pound tricolor chihuahua who is estimated to be about year and a half old.  Dugg had never been to the vet prior to his new life, so he has some catching up to do. Sweet Dugg had a limp on his left side, which was examined by the vet.    His left hip had possible Legg Perthes disease which is common in small dogs. His hip would pop in and out of place and cause discomfort. We chose to do the FHO (femoral head ostectomy) surgery while he was young. The surgery went well, and he has had a two-month recovery with rehab. The surgery cost was around $1200 and we are pleased with his recovery. 

 His new owner will need to continue his rehab consisting of 3 min walks and leg exercises. He was rechecked in early March and has been cleared by our vet to go to a forever home. 

Before his surgery, Dugg was an active boy and wrestled constantly with another small dog in his foster home. Dugg walks on a leash but does get distracted by everything that is going on in the world.   He likes to play with his toys and loves treats.  He doesn’t show food or toy aggression but can be protective of his treats.  He’s not much of a barker, but more of a “squeaker”.  He is a very active, high, energy pup and would do well with a friend to play with.  He hasn’t been tested around cats, so that is unknown.  He would do best in a home with older children, as younger children may be too much for his small size.     He is very affectionate and snuggly and loves to give kisses. Dugg seems to have gotten house manners down. He also uses pee pads, but his marksmanship is not very good.  He will make someone a delightful pet. 

Dugg is very small so will do best with small dogs, cats and older children. 

Dugg has a sensitive stomach and cannot tolerate people food, certain meds etc so something to be aware of. He currently eats homemade dog food and sometimes is hand fed to get him to eat. 

Dugg is current on all vaccinations and preventatives, is micro chipped, and neutered.  He is located in the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina area. Approved application, home visit, and adoption donation of $250 required.
