At the end of September we sprung 3 dogs from the Columbus co shelter and little Mila was one of them. She had been found at a school and brought into the shelter. No one claimed her so we swooped her up!
Mila is such a sweet little girl, we knew it wouldn't take long to find her happily ever after. She finished her vetting last week and yesterday she joined her forever family.
She now has a big fenced yard, an older doggy sister, and a dad who is home all the time.
Thank you Mary Beth for adopting and not shopping! Thank you Marc for fostering! Have a wonderful life little one! We love you.
At the beginning of September we saw this sweet Bully who had fresh scars all over his face and legs in a nearby shelter. The shelter didn't know what happened to him but he was super sweet with people and needed out asap so his injuries could be treated.
We had no idea what happened to him. Was he used as a bait dog a few times? Did he get stuck in some barbed wire? Only Marcel knows for sure. We couldn't change his past but we could rewrite his future so we sprung into action to get this handsome fella out of the shelter and into a foster home.
Marcel joined PLP and we immediately got him to the vet. We had to treat his external injuries first and a UTI. Once that was taken care of we treated his heartworms and finished his vetting. 8 weeks later Marcel was all fixed up! Look at the difference!
Marcel and his foster Dad bonded during their time together and Marc decided Marcel should stay with him. This week we made it official and Marcel is now HOME for good. No more trauma and uncertainty for this boy.
Congrats to Marc and Marcel! Thank you for fostering and adopting Marc! We appreciate everything you have done for this boy. He would have been a statistic in many shelters.
We love you handsome Marcel!! Never look back!
Happy Gotcha day Moonshine, now Hank, who has found his forever home with his foster family!
Hank was part of a hoarding case where we rescued 4 dogs in Hemingway after the owner was hospitalized. There were 20 dogs living in the home alone.
Kayleigh and Zane fostered this lucky guy thru his vetting and decided they didn’t want to let him go when he was ready for adoption.
Enjoy your new life little guy! Never look back !
Thank you Kayleigh and Zane for giving this guy the home he deserves!
Back in March this poor little dog appeared on the county shelters webpage as "rescue only". She was a hot mess, with ringworm and skin problems along with being heartworm positive. Some shelters put dogs down because of ringworm because it takes so long to treat and is highly contagious. Her little face was so sad; we just had to find a spot for her!
She soon joined our PLP family but had to be quarantined from other animals for several weeks. When the ringworm healed she could start her heartworm treatment and then after THAT complete her vetting and spay.
We named her Millie and she slowly transformed into the beautiful girl she was meant to be. Amazing what good food and vet care can do!
Two and a half months later and today was finally Millie's day to shine!
Congrats Millie, Brittany and family! We are so happy for you! Millie now lives as an only pet in Cheraw, SC and has a state park across the street to explore.
Brittany has been searching for a new family member for a few months and Millie was just what she was looking for.
Have a wonderful life Millie! We love you so much! This is why rescue matters! Dogs like Millie don't always get second chances but that is what PLP is all about.
Thank you Eric for stepping up to foster this awesome girl and taking her today to her new home. :)
Every rescued dog has a story. A past. Some have been thru things we could never imagine. Honestly, we may not really want to know.
Mavis's past certainly isn't a good one. We can only piece together what we DO know. Mavis was seen in the woods back in November in Gunters Island, SC. The person who saw her said, "hey come and get this dog if you want one"..... Now that right there can be a recipe for disaster ... luckily she was picked up and taken to the county shelter .
Around the same time, I began receiving emails from the shelter about the rescue-only dogs. I saw Mavis's photos (she was only a number) and I remember her face pulling at my heartstrings. That same day, one of our best foster moms, Tara sent me a message saying she was ready to foster again. I sent her Mavis's picture and she said YES. It was a holiday weekend so we knew time was of the essence getting this girl out.
Tara went to the shelter and picked up the dog with no name. A scared, hungry, heartworm positive dog who trusted no one. A complete flight risk.
We named this beautiful girl Mavis. Our shy girl went to the vet, started her heartworm treatment, was spayed and settled in. It took her more than a minute to trust people. After her vetting was complete she started coming to adoption events, however, she was not a social butterfly. She preferred to sit in the corner with her foster mom as her security blanket.
Mavis had several applications on her. I mean, look at her, she’s beautiful! But sadly, they weren't willing to give her a chance to get to know them first. Mavey is a sensitive girl...
Who can blame her!
BUT today things finally came together for our girl. After 5 months of becoming the dog she really is underneath that shell, she has found her HOME!!!
THANK YOU Stickland family for adopting our girl! Mavis now has a family who has someone home most of the time and a farm to explore! What could be better?
Congrats to sweet Mavis! We knew your HOME was out there somewhere!
If considering adopting, please don't walk by the shy and scared ones. Once they trust you they will be your best friend forever.
Have a wonderful life Mavis and Strickland family!! Thank you Tara for fostering this girl for the last 5 months! :YOU are her ANGEL.
Please, adopt; don't shop.
