Mavis

Every rescued dog has a story. A past. Some have been thru things we could never imagine. Honestly, we may not really want to know.
Mavis's past certainly isn't a good one.  We can only piece together what we DO know. Mavis was seen in the woods back in November in Gunters Island, SC. The person who saw her said, "hey come and get this dog if you want one"..... Now that right there can be a recipe for disaster ... luckily she was picked up and taken to the county shelter .
Around the  same time, I began receiving emails from the shelter about the rescue-only dogs. I saw Mavis's photos (she was only a number) and I remember her face pulling at my heartstrings. That same day, one of our best foster moms, Tara sent me a message saying she was ready to foster again.  I sent her Mavis's picture and she said YES. It was a holiday weekend so we knew time was of the essence getting this girl out.
Tara went to the shelter and picked up the dog with no name. A scared, hungry, heartworm positive dog who trusted no one. A complete flight risk.
We named this beautiful girl Mavis. Our shy girl went to the vet, started her heartworm treatment, was spayed and settled in. It took her more than a minute to trust people. After her vetting was complete she started coming to adoption events, however, she was not a social butterfly. She preferred to sit in the corner with her foster mom as her security blanket.
Mavis had several applications on her. I mean, look at her,  she’s beautiful! But sadly, they weren't willing to give her a chance to get to know them first.  Mavey is a sensitive girl...
Who can blame her!
BUT today things finally came together for our girl. After 5 months of becoming the dog she really is underneath that shell, she has found her HOME!!!
THANK YOU Stickland family for adopting our girl! Mavis now has a family who has someone home most of the time and a farm to explore! What could be better?
Congrats to sweet Mavis! We knew your HOME was out there somewhere!
If considering adopting, please don't walk by the shy and scared ones. Once they trust you they will be your best friend forever.
Have a wonderful life Mavis and Strickland family!! Thank you Tara for fostering this girl for the last 5 months! :YOU are her ANGEL.
Please, adopt; don't shop.
