Back in February I was scrolling thru a weekly email from the county shelter when I saw a beautiful Staffordshire terrier mix who was on the "list". I remember thinking how beautiful she was and thought surely someone would pull her. The following week she was still on the list and her time was up the next morning. She would be put down if a rescue did not pull her. Someone stepped up to foster her for a week and we would search for someone to take over after that, who we soon found.
Our girl left the shelter, we named her Petunia (she was just a number at the shelter) and she settled into her temporary home. We soon discovered Miss Petunia was pretty damn perfect. She finished her heartworm treatment, spay and vetting and her new foster mom told us she was the sweetest dog she had ever fostered.
Petunia had lots interest which made us very happy.
Staffordshire terriers are such loyal, loving dogs and Petunia is such a testament to that. She is what we call a "Velcro dog" meaning she wants to be next to her person at all times.
We knew when we met the Vinson family that Petunia belonged to them. (Their daughter adopted Earnest a few months ago!) They came up from North Carolina to meet her and they also have a beach house here. Her new mom is home all the time and she can go to work with her new Dad as well which is pretty awesome.
Petunia is now Emma and she spent her first night sleeping in bed between her new parents!
This is why rescue matters. This is the story of a perfect dog who ended up on the euthanasia list in an overcrowded shelter with little chance of getting out unless a rescue stepped up. This is the sad reality of many shelter dogs; luckily our girl wasn’t a statistic.
Have a wonderful life Petunia, now Emma! â¤ï¸Ââ¤ï¸Â We are over the moon for you!
Thank you so very much Vinson family for adopting and not shopping and seeing something so special in our girl.
Thank you Penny and Kandi for fostering!! You are her angels!
Adopt don’t shop!
