Back in April we were contacted about a house full of dachshunds whose owner was in a nursing home. A friend was driving to the property and throwing food over the fence a few times a week. The owner's friend went and got several of the dogs and took them to a store in Conway where they were available for pick up to basically whoever wanted them.
All the dogs had lived in a house that was full of trash. There were 18 dogs total, most doxies, except for 2 chis.
When our director got to the store she noticed a little chi, whose name she was told was J.R. in serious distress. He was coughing and seemed to have trouble breathing. All the dogs were covered in fleas and standing in their urine.
10 year old J.R. needed immediate vet care. So she scooped him up, along with one of the dachshunds and drove straight to the vet! (Another rescuer came shortly after and took the others and we got 4 more at a later date who were still in the home)
Our vet and staff were very worried about J.R. and we were not sure he would make it through the weekend. Luckily with treatment he took a turn for the better. (He has an enlarged heart and collapsed trachea.)
J.R. settled into his foster home with Danielle. We had him cleaned up and he has been on daily meds since his arrival to PLP. Our vet said J.R. could possibly live a few years and is doing good now with his treatment.
Yesterday J.R, now named Taco, joined his foster family permanently. He has two other senior dogs in his home and he fits in perfectly.
Thank you Danielle for fostering and adopting AGAIN! XO You rock! Thank you for giving this little guy a wonderful home for the rest of his little life. We love you J.R. aka Taco!
This is why rescue matters!
