In May we were asked to help a grey faced hound who was in a nearby shelter. He had been there for several weeks and was a shelter favorite. His name was Maurice.
We really wanted to help this sweet, dapper, gentleman. Someone had applied to adopt a dog from us but we weren't sure about the dog and cats so we suggested fostering. She accepted and Maurice joined his foster mom, Amanda.
Maurice was not accustomed to living indoors we soon discovered. He became very upset, busted out of crates, peed on the furniture and would bark nonstop. He wanted to see his new "mama" at all times and didn't like to be left alone. We tried different crates, cbd, doggy daycare, and belly bands. lol He was definitely a challenge.
With love, time and patience, our stressed out boy soon realized his foster mom was going to come home to him. He went out and about with her and even learned the stairs! You can definitely teach an old dog new tricks!
When it was time for him to be adopted we thought someone had chosen him but things never got worked out.
One morning we woke up to an adoption application from his foster mom!
Maurice, the dapper sugar face loves his Mama. He was HOME all along.
Have a wonderful life Amanda and Maurice. Thank you for fostering and adopting!
This is why rescue matters.
