GiGi

Little Gigi came to us at the end of May. She was in a kill shelter in North Carolina and many of her cellmates were starting to be euthanized for various reasons. Some were scared like Gigi so we stepped up for the little, unsocialized girl.
Gigi was not used to human interaction. We wonder if she had been a yard dog, where someone gave her some food occasionally. She was heartworm positive and full of parasites.
We found a foster home for her but soon found out Gig didn't have any experience walking on a leash so they asked if she could go elsewhere.  We found a temp spot for her and arranged for her to go back to North Carolina to our trainer to learn how to "dog" i.e. walk on a leash, enjoy human touch and have some enrichment and socialization.
When Gigi's training was complete, she went to a foster and was given instructions to not take Gigi outside for two weeks as she was a flight risk. Our trainer asked that she get acclimated before walking outside. That did not happen and Gigi escaped.  For five days we searched for Gigi. She would not come to humans so we set traps with the help of our local shelter and some amazing, experienced trappers. She had camped out on the railroad tracks in a secluded area. Luckily, we were able to trap her. whew!
Gigi went back to our trainer Jeff in North Carolina while we searched for a foster home with a fenced yard and another dog or two. (They give her confidence)
Gigi stayed with Jeff for a few months and finally she made the trip back to Myrtle beach to one of our regular fosters.
We were surprised when we got an application for Gigi and hopeful. The family lived several hours South of Myrtle and they even came to visit her, dogs and all.
When they decided to adopt, our director decided to drive Gigi to them. Gigi has had such a long road, been in seven different homes and really deserves to find her place in the world.
Upon arrival, our hearts were so full. Such a beautiful neighborhood, home and family. Even the two resident dogs were welcoming to Gigi.
Gigi joined her new family right before Thanksgiving and she already had Christmas presents under the tree. She has a big fenced yard, and two dogs to teach her the ropes. The best part is she has a family who is home a lot, and can give Gigi all the time, space and patience Gigi needs to feel loved and safe.
Our hearts are so full as Gigi is HOME.
Thank you so much Solis family. We are blessed to have found you.
All of our blood, sweat, and tears have paid off for sweet Gigi.
This is why Rescue is so important. Gigi could not have been adopted from the shelter. She needed a team of people to get her where she is today and we pulled it off. Thank you to all of her fosters, and everyone who was in her corner. It really takes a village.
Merry Christmas Gigi! We hope you live happily ever after and we can't wait to see lots of updates!
