Happy Gotcha Day to the one and only Little Rascal himself, OLLIE!! (his second go around)
Ollie came to PLP last December when his owner could no longer care for him or his older brother from another mother. (Chewy) They were taken to the county shelter, and we scooped them up.
Ollie was fostered and adopted rather quickly but after a few months he had picked up some bad behaviors. His mom, a very sweet lady, was not able to give Ollie the life and strong leadership he needed to succeed so she surrendered him to a vet office. He came back to us, and we gave him plenty of time to settle in and work on his "typical bossy chi" behavior.
During this time, the other dog from his original home, Chewy was adopted. We asked Chewy's dad if he would foster Ollie as he had the time and the skills that we thought would be good for the little monster. (Cough sweet Ollie)
It wasn't love at first bite, but Ollie and Mike soon learned how to maneuver their relationship all the while really becoming attached to one another.
Today, Ollie joined his household permanently. We also learned Chewy may have some health issues but hopefully love and resilience will prevail, and they will be together for a long time. ðð»
Thank you, Mike for adopting Ollie and giving him what he needs to be the best version of himself.
Be good Ollie! Don't come back now, ya hear? ð
Congratulations to little Oscar who has found his people!
Oscar came to us at the end of September when his mom could no longer care for him and his brother. A family member had taken them in; however, he was planning on taking them to a shelter. (not sure where that would be-shelters are all full)
Oscar was very skittish and scared. He had been with his mom for most of his eight years we assume and now he was passed around from home to home. He left the family home and went to a rescue friend for a few days, then we had him with a temp foster while we finished up a new foster app.
After a few days with the newly approved foster, she wanted him gone so we had to scramble to find a new foster.. This is very stressful for the rescue when someone doesn't give a new dog time to decompress and learn what is expected of them! They have been through enough. Oscar became very grumpy as dachshunds can be but a little patience and understanding goes a long way.
Oscar had not been to the vet in many years, so we took care of all of that, including an expensive cryptorchid neuter.
Our little dog with the big attitude ended up going to a boarding kennel with the foster's personal dogs for a few nights and someone at the camp fell in love with him ,inquired about adopting, and the rest is history!
Oscar joined his new mom and dad plus Ruffles, Lillian, Butterscotch and Chief. (two are not pictured) Since most are seniors, we assume Oscar will take over as boss. (lol joke)
Thank you, Christa and Jeff for adopting another rescue. The world needs more people like you.
Have a wonderful new life, Oscar! We hope to get lots of updates and love seeing you happy again!
Thank you to everyone who was a part of Oscar's journey.
Please remember there are always pure-bred dogs coming into rescues. Adopt; don't shop!
A week before Christmas, River's family took him to the county shelter and requested he be euthanized because he "was old."
The shelter sent us a message asking if we could take him and of course we said YES. Poor old man didn't need to spend the holidays in the shelter, and he definitely did not need to die because he was old.
We took him in and found out he was about the sweetest old man around! He is quiet, he is good, he likes to nap! We all love him.
He has no teeth, and he has a heart murmur but that doesn't stop him from enjoying life!
It was time for him to hit the adoption floor but his foster mama said, "No way, he can stay". River now has three former PLP siblings, Paisley, Sailor and Jax!
Thanks, Kim, for fostering and adopting and taking care of the old man. ð We couldn't be happier for River.
Seniors make wonderful companions. They wouldn't abandon you so please don't abandon them
Happy Gotcha Day to sweet little Opal!!
Opal came to us in February after her owner surrendered her to a North Carolina shelter. She had a skin infection on her face. (very treatable)
We scooped her up and started her vetting and treatment. She was so fearless and adorable. We couldn't believe someone had abandoned her! It didn't take long for her to become healthy and beautiful. All she needed was some vet care and love!
Stephanie and her son were looking to add to their family and Opal fit the bill perfectly.
Opal now resides in Georgetown and loves her new family. We are so happy for all involved!
Have a wonderful life Opal. We love you!
Once upon a time, Orion lived in Columbus County tied up outside with no shelter, food or water. Animal Control visited him four times before seizing him and taking him to the shelter. At this time he also had an embedded collar which caused open wounds around his neck.
We stepped up for this gentle boy and he made his way to Myrle Beach where he settled into a foster home and received the vet care he needed.
It didn't take long for Orion to get used to the good life! He loved lounging on the couch at his foster home and looking outside. His foster family did an amazing job and Orion's disposition was perfect even after all he had been thru.
We had an adoption event where a family applied for a different dog but that dog wasn't cat friendly so they had to pass. They came to our next event where Orion was present and they fell in love. Orion passed the cat test with flying colors and he joined his new family last week!! Woohoo!
Thank you Tom and Dana for adopting our sweet boy! We are so happy for him!
Have a wonderful life Orion and we hope to get many pupdates!
