Back in February a male staffy came into the county shelter with a bad leg who was heartworm positive. He had been picked up in Longs as a stray. The shelter was full and his time there was short. They called "last call" for this big boy. We asked a few fosters if they could help and by the time we contacted the shelter we weren't sure he was still available but luckily he was.
We got him to the vet asap and our vet determined his ankle was shattered beyond repair due to a gunshot. We can only assume he wondered on someone's property and was shot.
We decided to amputate his leg as he was in a lot of pain so "Trooper" had surgery to remove the bad leg. It was touch and go for awhile as he had quite a few complications but fortunately after a few weeks the incisions healed and he was able to begin his heartworm treatment.
Someone who formerly worked with homeless dogs in our area, saw our posts about Trooper and immediately felt a connection and wanted to meet him and possibly adopt!
Yesterday Tony made the 8 hour trip from Maryland with his dog, Sophie and all went well! Trooper hit the road with his new family and has been settling into his new home today.
Huge thanks to everyone who donated to his expensive vet bills and to his amazing foster family for caring for this boy these last few months.
Trooper is why Rescue Matters. He could have easily been a statistic. We wish you a long life of happiness sweet boy!! Never look back!
Back in June we saw a Bluetick hound on the county shelter "rescue list". She was heartworm positive and not spayed so she was not adoptable to the public.
One of our regular fosters recently fell in love with these gorgeous hounds and offered to foster her. Thank you Tara!! We named her Tulip because she was such a pretty, sweet girl.
Tulip had never lived inside before so she was a bit of a challenge at first. We had one approved app for her but they turned her down because she was not 100% housebroken at the time.
Fortunately, Tulip's luck was about to change.
This weekend Tulip joined her new mom, Wanda and they are getting to know each other while Tulip is teaching Wanda how much she loves food. lol Wanda is an experienced dog owner who knows the ups and down of adopting a new dog and will give Tulip all the time in the world to adjust to her new life. Tulip now has a big fenced yard and lots of time to to spend with her mom, who is retiring soon.
"The droopy eared charm of a Bluetick is irresistible. They crave affection and are deeply devoted to those who provide it. They are Smart, Devoted, and Tenacious."
Congrats Miss Tulip and Ms Wanda! We are so happy and grateful that you chose each other! We can't wait to see you live happily ever after and have lots of adventures together!
Thank you Tara for fostering Tulip and, as always, for being such a valuable part of PLP!
Happy life Tulip!
A few months ago we got a call about a dog being surrendered to the city shelter and drove up to get him. His name was Tanner and the overcrowded shelter was no place for him.
We found him a home right away but unfortunately it didn’t work out.
His original foster family offered to take him back and he even had a meet in another state with family members. That too was a no go and his awesome fos
ter family said, “what’s one more!
Congrats to Tanner and the Scott family! He joins our alumni Princess and his two PLP foster sisters, Daisy and Rosie plus a little army of Doxies.
We love this!!! Thank you awesome foster family! You definitely make doggies’ dreams come true!
Be a good boy Tanner!
Congrats to all!
