Jed

On the last day of November there was a little brown dog on "last call" at the county shelter. I couldn't believe no one had stepped up to save him.. He was rescue only because he wasn't neutered, was heartworm positive and had some sort of cyst on his face.  He was out of time and would be euthanized without immediate rescue.
I was up late one night and posted him in our foster group and luckily someone stepped up to help! We sprung him the next day and named him Jed: after one of our foster's dads who had just passed away.
Jed settled into his foster home and started his vetting . When he went to be neutered, our vet opened the cyst on his face and found a bullet casing!! He had been shot!  Sweet Jed didn't let that get him down and continued to be the sweet, happy guy who loved everyone.
In January the foster mom called me early one Sunday am saying something was wrong with Jed. He was very lethargic and wasn't moving. Our team sprang into action and took Jed to the ER which was the only vet open at that time.
They weren't sure what was wrong with Jed. At first they said he had advanced kidney disease which seemed odd for his young age. Then they said he could have Lepto which was a possibility since the foster mom lived in a wooded area. Jed had to be transported to our regular vet on Monday when the ER closed and he spent the rest of the week at the animal hospital getting fluids, tests, bloodwork and exams trying to figure out what was wrong. Jed sprung back quickly, luckily, BUT his first foster mom couldn't take him back so now we needed a place for him to go. If he had Lepto he could be contagious. It took several days for that test to come back and when it did it was negative.
It was determined that Jed got into something  while in his foster home. His kidney and liver levels were thru the roof but after a week they began returning to normal. We found a new foster home for Jed and he has made a full recovery!! Yay Jed!!  His bills were extensive but he was worth every penny!
Jed's new foster mommy had experienced some recent loss in her life and Jed helped mend her broken heart. She fell in love with this sweet boy. Luckily Jed was fine with her two cats and they all settled in together.
And now they will live happily ever after as we finalized everything over the weekend! Jed finally has a HOME of his very own and will never be uncared for again.
Thank you Barbara for being an angel for this sweet boy!
Jed we love you!! Have a wonderful life!

June

Happy gotcha day June!
June was the last of the 3 little chi’s who were found under a house in North Carolina and taken to a shelter at the end of October. They were not used to human touch, and June especially,  was very snippy and scared.  It took a few weeks to learn to trust humans but they finally came around. June’s two siblings were adopted before Christmas and now it’s this sweet girl’s turn!
Thank you Sally for doing such an amazing job with the three!
Thank you Testa family for adopting and not shopping! Happy new life June!
Never look back.

Jazzy

Congratulations to Jazzy who has found her forever family!
Jazzy came to us at the end of September from a North Carolina shelter. She had to be treated for heartworms and other vetting so she was with us for several weeks.
She also takes a little while to warm up to other dogs so it was tricky doing meets.
Claire was searching for a small dog as a companion and Jazzy fit the bill to a "T".  She has no other pets and Jazzy will be the center of attention. She now resides in Market Commons in a pet friendly community.
Thank you Oakland for fostering this little love bug!
Thank you Claire for adopting and not shopping!
Have a great life Jazzy!

Jo Jo

Back in August this smiley senior arrived at the county shelter. She was rescue only since she was Heartworm positive. She was a shelter favorite and i knew we had to get her out.
We found a foster on her last day and rushed to the shelter to spring the little shortie.  Whew!
We named her JoJo and JoJo settled right into her foster home.
She completed her heartworm treatment,  enjoyed being a couch potato and having toys of her own for once in her life.
By the looks of her, it appeared she had been used as a breeding machine and then tossed away when she was no longer of use.
JoJo's foster family fell in love with the stocky little Velvet Hippo and when JoJo was ready for adoption they decided she was already HOME! The life of leisure from here on out for our precious pitty!
Congratulations JoJo, Savannah and Jeff! We are so happy for you.
Thank you Savannah for fostering and adopting. Have a wonderful new life Jo!!  We Love You!!

JR

Back in April we were contacted about a house full of dachshunds whose owner was in a nursing home.  A friend was driving to the property and throwing food over the fence a few times a week. The owner's friend went and got several of the dogs and took them to a store in Conway where they were available for pick up to basically whoever wanted them.
All the dogs had lived in a house that was full of trash. There were 18 dogs total, most doxies, except for 2 chis.
When our director got to the store she noticed a little chi, whose name she was told was J.R. in serious distress. He was coughing and seemed to have trouble breathing. All the dogs were covered in fleas and standing in their urine.
10 year old J.R. needed immediate vet care. So she scooped him up, along with one of the dachshunds and drove straight to the vet!  (Another rescuer came shortly after and took the others and we got 4 more at a later date who were still in the home)
Our vet and staff were very worried about J.R. and we were not sure he would make it through the weekend.  Luckily with treatment he took a turn for the better. (He has an enlarged heart and collapsed trachea.)
J.R. settled into his foster home with Danielle. We had him cleaned up and he has been on daily meds since his arrival to PLP.  Our vet said J.R. could possibly live a few years and is doing good now with his treatment.
Yesterday J.R, now named Taco, joined his foster family permanently. He has two other senior dogs in his home and he fits in perfectly.
Thank you Danielle for fostering and adopting AGAIN! XO You rock! Thank you for giving this little guy a wonderful home for the rest of his little life. We love you J.R. aka Taco!
This is why rescue matters!
