Congrats to Miss Stormy who has found her match made in heaven with her new Mom, Joanne!!!
Stormy was part of a hoarding case consisting of many dachshunds. We picked her up on the side of a country store after her owner went to a nursing home and a friend took over the 20 dogs living in the home. They were getting fed 2-3 times a week and lived in a home full of trash and waste. They were all so scared and covered in fleas.
We took Stormy straight to the vet and and then to her foster home. Thank you Maxi!
Stormy settled in but was very scared and attached to her foster mom; she would protect her whenever a visitor came; which meant she went for the ankles!
We knew it would be a challenge to find the right home for her but when Joanne applied and explained her situation we were beyond hopeful.
Today Stormy joined her new mom and immediately attached to her! She even smiled for her adoption photos!
Never give up on the scared dog; the hard ones, they have a place .... we just have to find it.
Thank you Joanne for giving Stormy a chance and adopting not shopping!
Have a wonderful rest of your life Stormy! you deserve the best!
thank you Maxi, Amy and Megan for all your help with this girl.
At the beginning of February we pulled a dog who was out of time at a rural North Carolina high kill shelter. His name was Sam.
Sam had been brought in as part of a cruelty case. He was emaciated and full of parasites. Sam had not had a good life. He had lingered at the shelter for a month without even a basic dewormer.
Sam joined PLP when his awesome foster Mom, Debi went and picked him up.
Sam was grumpy, snappy, and didn't feel good. We immediately started his vetting and heartworm treatment. He was so thin it was alarming... and sad.
Sam had to be kept separate from the other dogs in the home for weeks. He wants to go after them. We feel he had to fight for every morsel of food he ever had. He didn't know what a dog bed was and he even got snippy with his foster Mom, who told Sam, "you better shape up, this is your last stop!"
Over the next month Sam slowly settled in and started realizing he didn't have to be scared or bossy. He wasn't housebroken AT ALL and he liked to break out of his crate. He also liked to eat Poop! He was a very challenging dog to say the least. He also would vomit for no apparent reason. Poor Sam.
Fast forward to May Sam is now friends with the dogs in the home, playing with them, sharing toys, and loves dog beds. He has gained weight and we have treated all of his medical conditions. He has come full circle thanks to an amazing foster mom who never gave up on him. THANK YOU DEBI!
Sam needed a patient, loving home with a fenced yard and last week we found it! Sam has found his forever home with Jean here in South Carolina. Sam made the trip from NC and hit it off right away with his new mom! She is retired and they are already best buds. THIS IS WHY RESCUE MATTERS! So many dogs in shelters just need time and patience. That's where we step in. Without Debi as his angel foster mom, Sam would not be here today.
Congratulations Jean and Sam! We couldn't be happier for you. Have a wonderful life together.
Sweet little Starling has had quite the adventure this year!
We came to know this little 22lb girl at the first of January when she and her two siblings were turned into a North Carolina rural shelter. Their owner had died and a relative brought them in. They were so scared and confused! We were asked if we could help and we found fosters for the three.
Starling and her brother, Moonbeam were both heartworm positive but he was very sick and lethargic. Hours after he settled into his foster home he quietly passed away. We were all heartbroken!
While Starling was going thru her heartworm treatment, her sister, Skylar was adopted. That left sweet Starling.
When we received an application for Starling from Texas we thought it was a mistake. We soon found out it was not
The application was approved and the adopter wanted to fly here to get Starling. Something just "clicked" and she was the one they wanted to add to their family! We were a little leery at first but soon realized Starling had hit the doggy lotto!
Tuesday her dreams came true as her new dad flew from Texas to Charleston, where Starling and her foster mom, Tara met him. After several hours of getting to know one another, Starling and her new dad, Rusty flew FIRST CLASS together back to Texas. (She rode shotgun in a carrier and had her own ticket!) I hope she asked for snacks and champagne!
The nonstop flight was no problem for our little laid back girl and she has been settling in nicely into her new home in the Lone Star state. Her family loves her already and she is now known as Mila. She has a doggy sister, a big house, and huge yard.
Starling, we LOVE you! You GO GIRL! From Columbus county NC to flying first class to a family who fell in love with you the moment they saw you and went the extra mile to get you!!
Our hearts are full and we can only wish this fate on every shelter dog.
Thank you so much Tara M for always stepping up to foster the underdog; the shelter dogs no one wants; the sick ones, the black ones. You are such an angel!
THIS IS WHY RESCUE MATTERS!! Please, adopt; don't shop! Congrats Rusty, family and Starling! Have a wonderful life!!
Congratulations to Skylar for finding her forever home! Thank you Grainger family for adopting and not shopping!
Skyler’s world was turned upside down when her former owner passed away and she was surrendered to a North Carolina shelter. Sadly her brother passed away soon after we rescued them. (Probably from heartworm complications) We updated her vetting, she soon realized she was safe, and she really came out of her shell. This family saw her and it was love at first sight!
Thank you Penny for fostering!
Have a wonderful life little one!
Happy gotcha day Summer!

Our little shelter pup who broke her leg the first day at her foster home is now healthy, happy and loved!! It’s been a crazy ride for the wild little hound girl but her foster family decided they didn’t want it any other way.
